![]() We are honored to carry on the mission of our early founders and continue their dream of giving animals in our community a second chance at life. Soon thereafter, Second Chance moved to a more suitable location on north Porter, which was our organization’s home until a capital campaign in the late 1990s provided us with the funds to construct the building that houses us today. Founded in 2003, Second Chance is an established organization that loves to hire graduates from Norfolk State University, with 16.3 of its employees having attended Norfolk State University. Second Chance Animal Rescue officially incorporated as a 501(c) 3 nonprofit organization in 1989, and early members proceeded to establish and confirm the mission and goals that continue to guide us today. During that time, our first adoption event took place at the Kinko’s on the corner of Boyd and Jenkins and resulted in the adoption of 47 of the 50 animals taken directly from the Norman Animal Shelter. Our organization began in the late 1980s, run by a small, but enthusiastic group of volunteers and operating out of an old farmhouse on the east side of Norman. Group Sessions Group sessions are facilitated by a California Registered or Certified Substance Use Disorder Counselor. What to Expect NOTE: Due to COVID-19, all group, education, and face to face sessions are being held on the phone or on Zoom. ![]() We are dedicated to helping the formerly incarcerated successfully transition into society with proper education, support, and resources. We also provide resources and events within our community that further our mission, including vaccine clinics, volunteer opportunities, speaking engagements, and partnerships with other impactful organizations. Second Chance DUI Programs are licensed with the California Department of Healthcare Services. Helping transform lives through transition. Second Chance Animal Rescue saves over 800 animals each year through the work of our dedicated facility staff and the aid of our incredible foster network. 1 Video 11 Photos Adventure Drama Family A young girl and her coach overcome adversity to make their way into the National Australian Gymnastics Squad. Our primary goal is to save dogs and cats from euthanasia throughout the state, which we achieve through animal adoption and enrichment, spaying/neutering practices, and community education. Our community programs can be tailored to fit any audience and can be hugely helpful in raising awareness about domestic and sexual violence in Northeast Alabama and beyond.Second Chance Animal Rescue is a nonprofit committed to the care, rescue, and wellbeing of animals in Oklahoma. You can also spread holiday cheer through theĪdopt-a-Family project that helps provide Christmas presents for a program participant and their family! Gift Wrap is a huge fundraiser that requires hundreds of volunteers. Volunteer to do gift wrapping at the Quintard Mall during the the two weeks before Christmas. The training is extensive and there’s a big time requirement up front for that. Must be at least 20 years old, able to respond to a local Emergency Department within 30-60 minutes, have a cell phone, have reliable transportation with insurance, be willing to take on-call shifts and pass a background check. Volunteer opportunity: Sexual Assault Forensic Exam Team (SAFE-T). SAFEs are specially trained volunteers that provide support to sexual violence survivors during forensic exams in the local Emergency Departments. ![]() Applications from survivors of domestic and sexual violence, people of color, members of the LBGTIQIA+ community, elders, young adults, men and women living in Calhoun, Cherokee, Cleburne, Etowah, Randolph, and Talladega Counties. The Board of Directors drives the organizational direction of 2nd Chance. Sweats, leggings, shorts, t-shirts, undergarments in all sizes for adults and kidsĪpply to serve on the 2nd Chance Board of Directors.
